Protect Your Vote: Photo ID Required

Georgia's voter ID law helps protect the integrity of every election. All voters must present an acceptable photo ID to cast a ballot in person.

Acceptable Photo IDs:
  • Georgia driver's license (even if expired)
  • Valid state or federal government-issued photo ID
  • Valid U.S. passport or military photo ID
  • Valid employee photo ID from government entity
  • Valid tribal photo ID
Free Voter ID Available: If you don't have an acceptable photo ID, you can obtain a free Voter ID card from the Houston County Board of Elections. No photo is required — just proof of residence.

Absentee Voting

If you cannot vote in person, any registered voter may request an absentee ballot. Here's what you need to know:

  • You must request your absentee ballot at least 11 days before Election Day
  • Absentee ballots are mailed to your registered address
  • You must sign and return your ballot before Election Day
  • The Houston County Board of Elections can provide request forms and instructions

Voting in person — either early or on Election Day — is the most direct and secure way to cast your ballot. However, absentee voting is available for those who need it.

Contact the Houston County Board of Elections at (478) 542-2190 to request an absentee ballot or for more information about the absentee voting process.
